Please join us on August 5, 2016 from 3:00- 7:30 to celebrate the life of Nick Castellanos who tragically passed away in an accident on January 16, 2015.

We will begin the festivities with a three mile beach walk at Silver Strand State Beach in Coronado,California.  Check in begins at 3:00pm at the main lifeguard tower.  The beach walk will commence at 4:00pm, and we will be walking south toward Imperial Beach.  After the walk, stick around to enjoy a delicious BBQ dinner, and spend time with friends and family.

Please purchase tickets to participate in this fun and meaningful event.  Adults- $40 and Students- $25.  You may also purchase a parking pass for $5 to enter the beach at a discounted rate.

​Congrats to Trevor Gilbert for being selected to receive the second annual EL Gun Scholarship! 

The purpose of the Nick Castellanos Foundation "El Gun" Scholarship is to recognize those high school seniors who display the positive characteristics of former teammate Nick Castellanos (sportsmanship, leadership, team spirit, work ethic, self-discipline and integrity), to recognize athletic achievement, to encourage high scholastic achievement and to assist with the costs of higher education.

Trevor embodies all the characteristics listed above.  We are proud of Trevor and his accomplishments, and we look forward to seeing what USC has in store for him!

Many many thanks to those who came out for the Inaugural Nick Castellanos Memorial Walk!  What a beautiful day for a remarkable event!  We had over 200 walkers stroll the beach to remember Nick!  Such a moving testament to a remarkable young man!  The walk was kicked off by Life Guard/Peace Officer Darby Fultz who said a few words about Nick, the Foundation and the Silver Strand State Beach Junior Life Guard Program.  The walkers then began a 1 1/2 mile trek south from the main lifeguard tower south towards Imperial Beach.  At the turn around point, the walkers were treated to a much needed water break on this very hot day.  They also had the opportunity to take a moment to reflect and jot down a favorite memory of Nick and place it in a memory box.  Upon the walkers' return, they were treated to a delicious BBQ dinner catered by the fabulous Bekker's Catering.  What an amazing way to remember Nick.  We are so grateful to be part of this community which is so very loving and supportive.  Thank you and see you next year!

On Friday, July 17, Darby Fultz of Silver Strand State Beach Junior Guards presented the first two Nick Castellanos Awards at their end of session banquet.  Those considered for the award best embodied the attributes of Nick- passion, positive attitude and perseverance.  We were so pleased with their selection of Junior Guard Damian Monjaraz and Junior Guard Aide Donovan Prince.  Congrats boys!
